Since quite a few of my old Craftsman sockets have walked away, I’m finding the cost of individual replacement vs. new set to be equal, and it would produce a reasonable, slightly limited spare travel set. Wife seems to want to get a set for me...so...let’s talk.
What complete set do you like/would you get? I need deep sockets too, just like we all find ourselves needing too. I hear modern Craftsman is now cheaper in quality than what I had, so brands are open but any sockets to replace must be obtainable.
So fire away!

I like Husky’s stuff. I picked up a craftsman set from Sears before they went under. W hile it was a good deal the quality didn’t seem to match up to the older sets.

The Tekton stuff made in Taiwan is actually really nice. I use their sockets and wrenches. Nice price and nice quality. And nice reviews as well.

Are you open to nonconsensual organ arbitrager? If so, get Snap-Ons. If not, Harbor Freight.

I really like my Grey Pneumatic socket set, and ratchet. I think their 3/8 drive mertric set is. I have this set, but if you don’t want a ratchet they sell just socket sets as well https://www.tooldiscounter.com/product/grey-pneumatic-3-8-drive-6-pt-35-pc-duo-socket-set-gry81635mrd

Proto/Mac/Snapon if you hate money! I like using my Proto stuff the most.
Pittsburgh/harbour freight you really can’t beat for the price. They’ve gotten pretty nice the last few years.
Husky/Craftsman/big box brands are hit and miss and much harder to warranty if they do break than Pittsburgh imo

I’ve been using this particular se t https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-Mechanics-Tool-Set-270-Piece-H270MTS/309161789 for about seven years now, through a rock crawler build, routine maintenance, etc. It has been excellent. I chewed up a couple of sockets using an air impact gun to break loose some seized leaf spring bolts, took them back to Home Depot and they swapped them out on the spot, no questions asked, no receipt. You really can’t go wrong with that kind of warranty and the stuff works great.

Glad to hear that. For the future, I’m hearing the impact sockets from Harbor Freight are actually real beasts. So check them out next time you need to impact something. I keep researching the tool options and prices and It’s really gettign to be an issue. The good to ol brands are bought up in the last 10 years and moved production to asia. All thats left, if you wnat high er end USA made, is Snap-On, Wright (both very $$) and SK (not as much $), both of which are much more than the asian made stuff. Proto is Stanley owned now and is satrting to get asian made parts mixed in (ratchets). So it comes down to general use satisfaction and, of the asian tools, which are better quality.
Sort of like a good fast-food burger. None are excellent, but which one, McD or BurgerKing or Arbys, will not leave you hungry and going to the bathroom an hour later.
Im looking hard at Gearwrench, DeWalts new stuff, The Husky you mentioned, and on the high end, SK if I c an swing the dough. Any other sets of quality seem to be more than SK and then in walks Milwaukee who have a history of cracking the whip on their asian producer so their stuff is actually decent....and thney now have ratched/socket sets priced juuust under SK (100% usa though)
So This is one of those things that will drive one mad. I like a store near me that replaces parts without question or reciept. SK require a phone call and a bit of time.

Have you ever heard of S&K? I have some of their end wrenches. They have been around for a while and the quality is outstanding.

I work for a Milwaukee distributor, have WAAAAY more Milwaukee power tools than I need, but can’t pass up deals on cool shit, so I end up buying that shit all the time. We don’t stock the socket and ratchet sets, but I’ve sold a few to customers and they have unanimously given excellent reviews. I will probably buy a bunch of that stuff, even though I don’t need it, just because I love that most of my tools match. It’s an OCD thing, I think. I’m currently pursuing their new battery powered chainsaw, despite the fact that I have like two little trees in my yard and no legitimate use for it. I just want it real bad. https://milwaukeetool.com/Products/Outdoor-Power-Equipment/Chainsaws/2727-21HD

That socket set I expect to do well. Milwaukee is a bit more than others but always seems to be actually better! So if true, this is good for what you pay. It is under SK money but close and I’m hearing the same. It’s very nice.
But I think the wife just bought gearwrench. I'm good with that. Real good reviews
